STRATAGEM Instructor´s ER COBRA Belt + stiffener

Category: Belts

Looks like ze Germans appreciate Cobra buckles as well; STRATAGEM has stepped up to the plate offering a nice rigger's belt package with their Instructor´s ER COBRA Belt. The materials are all MIL-SPEC with construction utilizing the standard principles used in airborne gear fabrication.

This is no small remark as airborne gear has the constant reminder any failure tends to result in death. The highlight is certainly the Cobra buckle as it meets the strength requirements of traditional hardware while being releasable. As a result you get the convenience of being able to quickly buckle or unbuckle without sacrifice to safety or performance. The addition of velcro is welcomed to secure the extra slack. Perhaps the tail could be tapered a little more, but the existing small 45 degree cuts do help with strap feeding. The large rigger's type D-ring can also be secured with a velcro strap so you don't have to worry about it flopping around when not in use. This brings up it should be noted the D-ring won't fit through many pant belt loops so keep that in mind if your pants have loops closer to the frontal middle than normal. As shown on the last pics with my Crye pants, the buckle is slightly offset, but it worked out nicely where I was able to tuck into the pant loop for storage, alternative I could secure over the loop as well. The Cobra buckle part wasn't an issue with the loops since the male part is removable. This does take a little bit more time than a common slim belt, but nothing crazy. None the less, maybe I'm a lazy bastard and commonly find myself just leaving them on the pants. This particular version incorporates stiffener which adds a good dose of heft to hold holsters and droplegs more effectively without getting all sad and droopy. The result is a nice balance between non stiffened belts and super stiff duty belts. So far it is holding up great and no complaints; without the company label I would have guessed it was made in America. Keep in mind the belt isn't intended to be used for a main rappelling harness, yet still will nicely do the trick when needed as an emergency backup. STRATAGEM also offers other belt variants including ones without stiffener for comfort and non Cobra versions to save on cost, be sure to check those out as well.
