Vertx Base UL Short Sleeve Performance Shirt

I can always use some fancy base layer shirts for working out or wearing with armor so was happy to give this Vertx version a try. Offhand the size small I tried out was a fairly loose fit compared to the Under Armour DO YOU EVEN LIFT BRO tight fit look. Preferably I would have additionally tried a smaller size just see, but alas I am a wee-man and size small is as small as they make. For better or worse there is plenty of shirt length, this is usually a plus for those who don't tuck in their shirts, yet can get a little warmer / crowded in the crotch for those who do tuck in.

In combination with the already loose fit, the material is very stretchy so a full range of movement is possible without any restriction concerns. Made of 88% Polyester and 12% Spandex Blend, the shirt also sports the moisture wicking properties expected of a performance shirt. Moisture wicking helps you get back to dry after sweating up a storm and as a result of this improved evaporation, it also causes enhanced body cooling, which is what your body sweat was trying to do in the first place. With a little airflow it doesn't take long to dry up compared to cotton where it seems to be the fabric of eternal dampness holding. It is a bit harder for me to test, but the fabric is supposed to have antimicrobial finishing as well.

Crucial to these types of shirts the seams are low profile using a flatlock stitch; done even better than usual as they are actually sewn down flat on the inside instead of sticking out at a tangent. So far while rucking and armoring it up I haven't had any chafing issues. I was concerned about the embroidered logo on the upper back at first, but the extra fabric there does a good job at adding some extra padding to prevent what could have been an abrasive issue.

Although Vertx has been a bit "flexible" on what the color smoke grey is between their products, I do like the color on this shirt. It is a nice neutral grey on the darker side. The size and washing instructions are printed on the inside which means there is no tag to worry about, however also means all that info is going to rub off in the near future.

Overall it has been a solid performance style shirt offered at a decent price, even though I'm stuck with a loose fit, bigger folks out there will have the option to try out more sizes if a different fit is desired.
